Global options in NPI affect how users interact with FactoryLogix features and functions and control all aspects of the system. Global option settings combined with user roles and permissions allow different types of access to all areas of the FactoryLogix system. Administrators access FactoryLogix global settings in the Settings area of the NPI client application.

Note

Only a member of the Administrator group can configure default values for global options.

In the Production Portal category, you configure the default global option settings for all aspects of the FactoryLogix Production client application (also referred to as the Production Portal).

Tip

To search for a global option, select a column header on the right side of the window, then press Ctrl+F. In the Search box that displays at the top of the window, enter a search string, then press Enter. All categories containing the search string you entered are highlighted in Yellow. (Select the Close button to end the search and redisplay all settings.)

  • Allow barcode scanning in Excel document - When set to True, a barcode scanner can be used to scan data into the currently-selected cell range of an Excel document. The Operator Interface template shown in Production must have a Document Viewer gadget that is being used to view the Excel document.

    Note:

While working on a production unit, data collection activities take barcode scanning precedence over an Excel document within a Document Viewer.

  • Packout Item Behavior - Determines the behavior when packing an item:

    • Prevent the user from packing in a panel

    • Depanelize the item and pack all the circuits

    • Pack the panel barcode itself

  • Automatically Print Packout Label on Box Completion - When set to True, prints a packout label automatically when a box is completed.

  • In Activities, preloads all video files rather than streaming them. In activities, preloads all video files rather than streaming them. The default setting is False.

  • Allow Selecting of Un-Activated Batches - When set to True, users can select batches that aren't yet activated in the schedule view of the Batch Selector. When set to False, the batches are displayed but can't be selected.

Production Portal

Defect Collection

  • Default Defect Source - Specifies the default source for defects. The default source value is assigned to a new defect in any situation where a source hasn't already been defined for the associated assembly revision. The Default Defect Source options are:

    • None

    • Production

    • Receiving

    • Customer

    • Engineering

A defect should only be allowed to be closed if it has a status of fixed.

  • Prevent an Operator Fixing and Closing a Defect - When set to True, prevents users from closing defects they fixed.

  • Prevent Closing Defects that are not Fixed - When enabled, ensures that a defect’s status can only transition to a Closed status when the currently-recorded status for the defect is fixed.

Note:

By default, the global option Prevent Closing Defects that are not Fixed option is not enabled. This option only affects changing a defect’s status when using the Production client application. Updating a defect’s status using any other method such as the xTend API is unaffected by this global option. You must have administrator rights to change global options.

  • Set Defect Mode Default to On - When set to True, enables Defect Mode in the Document Viewer when first opening a new operation.

  • Always Use Circuit Board Chooser to confirm target circuit - When set to True, always prompts for circuit board selection dialog when collecting defects against a panelized assembly (via interacting with an ECAD/visual aid). If set to False, only prompt the circuit board selection dialog if the circuit drawn on is different than the previous selection. This option will be overidden if the Unit Identifier drop-down is opened.

Production Portal

Auto User Logout

The Auto User Logout option allows you to set an Idle Time Limit. After a Production session is idle for the specified amount of time, the user will be logged out.

Note:

As of FactoryLogix release 2019.1, a hard-coded idle time limit of 8 hours is implemented for all client software. After an NPI, Production, Logistics, or Analytics session has been idle for 8 hours, the user will be logged out automatically.

  • Idle Time Limit - Specifies the idle time limit (in minutes) before a user is logged out automatically. When set to zero (minutes), the Auto User Logout feature is disabled.

  • Message Duration - Specifies the time (in seconds) between 30 and 3,600 (1 hour) to display the auto logout warning message. The default message duration is 30 seconds.

Change Product

  • Allow a Zero Quantity for Non-Serialized Batches - When set to True, batches for non-serialized and hybrid processes may be created with a quantity of zero. This allows units to be transferred to these batches and allowing only those transferred units to be processed in the target batch. This is possible because Change Product for non-serialized units decrements the transferred quantity from the source batch quantity and increments the target batch quantity by the same amount.

  • Ensure Route Completed - When set to True, route validation is activated. Only units that complete all operations in their current process are allowed to change to the next batch or assembly.

  • Change Product Revision When Changing Product - When set to True, a UID's product revision is changed to match the product revision of the assembly it has been changed to during Change Product. When set to False, the UID's product revision will not be changed.

  • Ensure Status is Passed - When set to True, the overall unit status must be passed in order to change the product.

  • Ensure All Defects Fixed or Closed - When set to True, product change is restricted to units without any open defects.

Production Portal

Product Initialization

  • Default Unit Printing Mode - Specifies the default mode used to initialize products in production:

    • No Print and Manual Initialization - FactoryLogix will not print the barcodes. Initialization will be performed manually.

    • Print and Manual Initialization - FactoryLogix will generate barcodes for each unit prior to initialization. Initialization will be performed manually.

    • Print and Auto Initialization - FactoryLogix will generate barcodes for each unit. Initialization will be performed automatically by FactoryLogix.

This mode can be overridden in the Initialize Product process at the activity level.

  • Copy Data When Transitioning Non-Serialized Units to Serialized - Determines what type of measurement values are copied when serializing during a non-serialized transaction.

    • Do not copy - No values are copied. (This is the default setting.)

    • Copy data from current transaction - Values collected against activities marked as Completed in the current WIP transaction are copied to the new UID(s).

Material Setup/Capture

  • Enforce Quantity Validation - When set to True, operations that have material setup will validate the quantities of the material to ensure none of the parts have been depleted. When parts are depleted, an error message displays, indicating that the current material setup is invalid due to depleted materials. Once invalidated, users will no longer be able to WIP units through this operation.

  • When this occurs, do one of the following:

    • Update the quantity of material

    • Replace depleted parts with valid material

    • Override the error, allowing the setup to be valid. (Only an administrator with the appropriate permissions can perform an override.)

This option works with both Material Setup Validation in Production and the Capture Materials activity in NPI. The factory resource setting Automatically Deplete Parts must be enabled for this to work properly. (See Create a factory and set up factory resources for more information.)

  • Expired Material Load Notification - When enabled, a notification will be triggered if an operator attempts to load expired material. The form of this notification will be in accordance with the defined alarm reaction template.

Automatically Consume Sub Assemblies

  • Automatically Consume Sub Assemblies - When set to True, quantities of the sub-assembly UID in a sub-assembly collection activity are depleted and the same consumption records as for material UIDs are created.

Production Portal

Scrap Handling Replacement

  • Allow Replacement Units During Scrap Handling - When set to True, allows replacement units to be introduced to a batch. The number of units that can be introduced to a batch equals the count of all units associated to the batch minus any units that were scrapped. When set to False, replacement units cannot be introduced to a batch.

Production Portal

Tracking

  • Show Aliases in WIP Tracking Gadget - When set to True, a unit UID shown in the WIP Tracking gadget’s drop-down also includes all its unit alias values.

  • Default to List View - When set to True, sets the List tab in the WIP Start gadget as the default view, whenever the List tab is present.

  • Unit Selection on WIP Start - When set to True, the operator is able to select serialized units on which they wish to work from a list—providing the operation configuration meets certain requirements.

Production Portal

Non-Conformances

  • Require Reason Code for NCR Scrap - When enabled, requires you to specify a reason code when scrapping in a non-conformance.

  • Third-Party NCR Integration - When enabled, adds an integration plan to the action plans that can be included in a non-conformance profile to facilitate communication of a non-conformance with a third-party NCR solution.

Production Portal

Synchronized Operations

  • Require Validation at Synchronized Operations

    • When set to False (default) and the operator selects the Start button in Production, the system displays a list of all primary work to be completed. The operator selects the Submit button to move forward.

    • When set to True and the operator selects the Start button in Production, the system displays a list of all primary work to be completed. The operator must confirm that they have each item listed by scanning the barcode of a serialized item or by checking a non-serialized quantity.

When every listed serialized item is scanned and every non-serialized quantity is checked, the operator selects the Submit button to move forward. When the primary work is successfully validated, the secondary work is listed for the operator.
